2007 Spirit of Illinois Honors Award Program

The "Spirit of Illinois Honors" program is designed as a tool for our councils to be all that they can be in the area of programming. Each of our councils are encouraged to use the Surge with Service book and the other many tools available to them to have a most successful and enjoyable fraternal year.  Awards are given based on the following criteria:

Award Levels:
Knights of the Holy Grail          38-44 Programs
King Arthur’s Round Table        33-37 Programs
King Richard’s Crusaders         26-32 Programs
Excalibur Award                      18-25 Programs 
 
Supplemental Standards the Council must meet:
In addition to the number of program listed, the Council must also meet other criteria.  These include:
  • submitting required forms to Supreme on time (forms 185, 365, 1728, and 1295),
  • being current on State per capita,
  • obtaining 3 new members in each of the first and second halves of the fraternal year,
  • conducting a membership blitz in October and March,
  • participating in all 4 charitable goals with achieving at least 3 of them,
  • obtaining positive membership growth as of May 1, and
  • submitting the tally sheets with the District Deputy’s approval by May 1.
Programs allowed for this award:
A complete list of what programs are allowed for this award is below.  Items in bold are programs that Council 1028 has already completed for this award.

37 of 44 programs are already complete!!! (Updated 05/31/07).  State accepts the fact that our last program will be completed after the State Convention and has awarded us the TOP HONOR of Holy Grail at the Convention over Memorial Day Weekend.  Congratulations Knights!  We are a top achieving Council in programming!!!

CHURCH

1.      Participate the life of the parish (Minimum of 5 activities)-- Usher, Eucharistic minister, choir, maintaining or improvements of Parish etc.
2.      Sponsor a parish retreat or Eucharistic Adoration program
3.      Assist the people of a Catholic mission, or a Catholic religious community (i.e., retirement center, etc.) or local Catholic clergy--RSVP qualifies!
4.      Sponsor a parish prayer service (i.e., Stations of the cross, Rosary, Reconciliation Service, Marion Hour of Prayer, Divine Mercy, Eucharistic Adoration)
5.      Participate in or sponsor a Priesthood Sunday event.
6.      Have a Parish roundtable. Councils with more than one Parish must complete the Parish Roundtable Coordinator Form; councils that serve only one Parish must complete the annual survey
7.      Conduct a Memorial service/Mass for deceased brother knights - will be completed on Memorial Day!
8.     Participate in the Rosary Program

COMMUNITY

1.      Promote or sponsor a Right to Life Project
2.      Participate in a community assistance/ betterment project (disaster relief, adopt-a-highway, Habitat for Humanity, food pantry)
3.      Sponsor a Blood Drive
4.      Participate in a food or clothing drive to assist the needy or volunteer as a council to assist at a soup kitchen or similar event
5.      Participate as a council in visiting the sick or elderly shut-ins or conduct hospital visits.
6.      As a council participate in leadership roles in your communities, civic or historical societies
7.      Participate in the Wheelchair Foundation

COUNCIL

1.      Conduct a "Welcome Back Brother Program" during the months of July, August or June. - will be accomplished on June 21!!!
2.      Publish a quarterly newsletter or monthly council newsletter /or host a council website.
3.      Publish a council tri-fold
4.      Hold a fraternal benefits information night
5.      Sponsor and maintain a council certified 1st degree team
6.      Participate in a State sanctioned KC athletic event (bowling, golf, softball.)
7.      Conduct on going social events
8.      Participation by council officers in the KC Academy (at least one council officer must attend a minimum of 2 Academy sessions during the Fraternal year)
9.      Submit a "State Knight of the Year" entry
10.  Submit a minimum of 3 Knight of the month entry's
11.  Participate in the Shining Armor Award Program
12.  Participate as a council in a Special Olympics program  (Volunteer hours and/or Financial assistance), especially during the Spring games events
13.  Participate in the Special Olympics Recycle program

FAMILY

1.      Sponsor a KC Family "Corporate Communion" at least quarterly
2.      Participate in the Supreme Family of the month program (must submit at least 3 entries to Supreme during the Fraternal year)
3.      Sponsor a family fun event, social or outing, i.e., holiday party, picnic, canoe trip, participate in the KC Kamporee, etc., during July 1st - December 31st and January 1st 2006 -June 30th 2007
4.      Assist a needy family
5.      Submit a "State Family of the Year" entry
6.      Submit a minimum of 3 Family of the Month entries

YOUTH

1.      Support a Columbian Squires Circle, CYO, Catholic youth group, or scouting group
2.      Conduct a program to recognize and/or encourage youth liturgical participation (alter servers, youth choir, youth lectors, participation in Children's Mass) - will be accomplished on May 28!
3.      Actively participate in community youth programs (coaching athletics, 4-H club, Explorers, etc.)
4.      Sponsor a Drug Awareness Poster Contest or similar program
5.      Sponsor (or co-sponsor) a local KC Free Throw
6.      Sponsor (or co-sponsor) a KC International Soccer Challenge event
7.      Participate in the State sanctioned KC Spelling Bee
8.      Participate in the Essay contest
9.      Sponsor a Program for the youth of the Parish, i.e., Christmas party, dances, Easter egg event, etc.
10. 
Conduct a drug/alcohol awareness poster contest
